We know that terminating a pregnancy is not an easy decision. But we will make the process as positive, painless and gentle as possible. Whatever your situation, we will do the maximum permissible by law to help. Use the Pregnancy Calculator to determine how far along you are in your pregnancy, and the options available to you.
There are two common, well-tested and safe procedures for surgical abortion:
Vacuum Aspiration is the preferred method if you are less than 14 weeks from your last menstrual period. We provide you with pain medication and a mild sedative to assure you are as comfortable as possible. The procedure takes only a minute or two with little to no pain, but we’ll ask that you remain in the center for some time after for observation.
Dilation & Evacuation (D&E) is the method used for pregnancies between 14 and 22 weeks. One day of dilation is used through 17.6 weeks. Two days of dilation is used from 18-22 weeks. The actual procedure only takes around 15-30 minutes to complete.
Commonly referred to as “the abortion pill” medical abortion can be administered up to 10 weeks or 70 days from the last menstrual cycle. It involves no surgery – you simply swallow a pill. This will result in a miscarriage and a “heavy period” will result.

At Alamo Women’s Clinic, we trust you to make your own decisions without government intrusion. Texas abortion law, however, requires 24-hour consent and a sonogram. BUT, if you live 100 miles or more from the nearest clinic, you can do it all at Alamo in just one day after listening to a conference call for 5 minutes at least 24 hours before your appointment. If you live within 100 miles, you will need to make two appointments. The first appointment is to obtain consultation and a sonogram with one of our doctors. You may return for the procedure or pill the following day or any day at least 24 hours later. Whichever situation pertains to you, we’ll work with you to make the process as fast and easy as it possibly can be.
